Safety Glass – Functionality and Aesthetics

Reinforced glass is a type of safety glass with an embedded metal mesh resembling square netting. The mesh increases the strength of the glass and, in case of damage, holds large glass shards in place so they cannot fly out. The use of the mesh also creates an original, decorative look. Reinforced glass is a characteristic element of a raw industrial interior.

Tempered glass is produced through a heat treatment process in which the glass is first heated to a very high temperature and then rapidly cooled in a stream of compressed air. This increases its resistance to breakage. Tempered glass is safety glass. When damaged, it breaks into small, blunt, irregularly shaped pieces, minimizing the risk of injury. Before tempering, the glass can be rolled to imprint a specific pattern on its surface, for example vertical or horizontal lines (ribbed glass).
